An app for cataloguing a collection of Pokémon cards: it recognises cards from a photo, keeps track of how many there are and in what condition, and shows what they are worth today.

The problem
A teenager with hundreds of cards and no way of knowing what he already had, what was missing and what was worth putting aside. Existing apps require everything to be entered by hand, or send the photos to a server.
The solution
The card is framed with the phone and the app recognises it, without sending the photo to any server: recognition happens on the phone itself. For each card it records condition, language and variant, and shows the market value, updated every night.
The result
The collection is catalogued in a searchable inventory by set, condition and value, updated with every new card.
Recognition happens on the phone
Photos never leave the device. The app downloads a 3.3 MB file once, with the visual fingerprint of 34'288 cards, and compares locally: it works even at a trade fair, where the network is absent or overloaded.
Images on dedicated storage
The external image catalogue often responded with errors. The 23'803 images were moved to dedicated storage, which keeps the display stable.
Today's price, not a historical average
Every night an automatic job reads the public Cardmarket price list and shows the trend calculated on current listings. Links lead to the right page, with language and condition already set.
Graded-card cases
Certified slabs (PSA, BGS, CGC) have their own view, with grading company, grade and certificate. Each one has a Logbook: an append-only register, useful for insurance.
The binder, pocket by pocket
The app mirrors the 9-pocket binders page by page, so the exact position of each card in the binder is shown.
The collection in the screens is fictitious, built for the purpose; catalogue, images and prices are real. Pokémon is a trademark of its respective owners.
